MULTIPLO wins a Good Design Award 2008 in Chicago

Multiplo, the innovative “cooking vessel”, received the prestigious award from the Athenaeum in the capital of Illinois in competition with projects from 48 countries.

Fabriano, 27th January 2008 – Another world first for Ariston design. Following the success of the Moon in the “Bathroom” category last year, the Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design assigned the Good Design Award 2008 to the Multiplo, the new cooking vessel designed by Marco Fagioli and Emanuel Gargano for Indesit Company’s Scholtès line. The Multiplo was chosen from amongst the winners in the “Kitchen” category.

The product is extremely revolutionary in that it “invents” a system of cooking that’s completely built into the top and no longer needs pots, which are replaced by vessels inside the appliance. The Multiplo is installed in a kitchen work top just like a hob, with the difference that it can provide five types of cooking: steaming, boiling, roasting, frying and low temperature cooking.


Set up in 1950, the Good Design Awards, focusing on the avant-garde in industrial design, are organized by the Chicago Athenaeum – Museum of Architecture and Design, one of Chicago’s most prestigious cultural institutions and the only museum of architecture and design in the United States, in collaboration with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies (Dublin and Athens) and the Metropolitan Arts Press.


Over 500 projects from 48 nations were submitted to a panel of experts from all over the world who assessed them in terms of innovation, form, materials, functions and utility, privileging the energy and vitality of contemporary design. The 2008 Awards saw the participation of all the companies which have won design awards since 2006. The categories examined in 2008 were protection equipment, energy systems, robotics, medical equipment, the environment, table ware, electronics, sports equipment, products for infants, furnishing, office products, industrial, textile and automotive products, urban architecture, kitchens, bathrooms, domestic appliances, lighting, hardware, graphics and packaging.
